Singaporean entertainment legend Moses Lim passed away on 11 February 2025 at the age of 75. His death was announced on Facebook, where he was celebrated as an icon who brought laughter to generations of Singaporeans.
Born on 13 December 1949 in Singapore, Lim was the third of twelve children in a Henghua-speaking family. He pursued his education at Catholic High School, Maris Stella High School, Anglican High School, and later studied commerce at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
A gifted linguist, Lim was fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay, and several Chinese dialects, including his native Puxian Min. In 1994, he made a career-defining move into entertainment, taking on the role of Tan Ah Teck in Singapore’s first English-language sitcom, “Under One Roof.”
As the beloved minimart owner known for his catchphrase, “This reminds me of a story,” Lim’s portrayal of Tan Ah Teck resonated with audiences across generations. His performance earned him the Best Male Actor in a Comedy award at the 1996 Asian Television Awards, making him the first Singaporean to receive this accolade.
Beyond “Under One Roof,” Lim co-hosted “Comedy Nite” alongside Jack Neo and appeared in films such as “Just Follow Law” (2007) and “Our Sister Mambo” (2015).
In 2018, Lim encountered health challenges following heart surgery complications, which required three months of recovery and the use of crutches. In 2022, he was diagnosed with a slow pulse rate, and while doctors recommended a pacemaker, he declined due to previous surgical complications. A later examination showed his condition had stabilized.
Lim’s contributions to Singapore’s entertainment industry leave behind a lasting legacy, as fans remember him as a pioneering figure who shaped local television comedy. Tributes from colleagues and fans continue to pour in, honoring the life and career of a man who brought joy to so many.
