Good news for commuters! Train services on the East-West Line between Bedok and Tampines, as well as Tanah Merah and Expo, will resume on Dec 8 from the start of passenger service hours – one day ahead of schedule.
The Land Transport Authority announced this on Dec 7, saying that new tracks have been laid to connect the EWL to the East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID) and to the new platform at Tanah Merah station.

LTA said they have completed comprehensive testing, including safety and ultrasonic checks on the tracks, power supply, and train signalling systems. Several stations along the EWL between Bedok and Expo had been closed since Nov 29 to facilitate construction works in preparation for the opening of the new depot.
LTA Group Director for Rail (Electrical and Mechanical), Chia Choon Poh, shared on Dec 5 that commuters at Bedok and Kembangan stations may experience slightly longer waiting times of up to 17 minutes during off-peak hours. This is because works to connect the line to the new depot are entering the testing phase.
The reopening was originally scheduled for Dec 9, so finishing one day early is quite good lah! At least the construction works are on track and they managed to complete everything ahead of time.
This means less disruption for commuters who have been taking shuttle buses for the past week or so. Finally can travel more conveniently again!
