A runner collapsed at the 15km mark during the Standard Chartered Half Marathon held on Dec 6, with other participants seen administering first aid.
According to a Mothership reader, he spotted the collapsed runner at around 6:40am near Bay East Garden. The Standard Chartered Half Marathon is 21.1km long, so the incident happened about two-thirds into the race.

A photo shared with Mothership showed several other runners helping the collapsed runner and giving first aid, including CPR. Another reader also mentioned that an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was delivered to the runner between 6:30am to 6:45am.
The second reader added that the area where the incident happened was “very cramped” as the left side of the race track had been barricaded due to ongoing construction. This might have made it more difficult for people to help.
The first reader eventually saw the runner being evacuated by buggy to an ambulance. A spokesperson for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon confirmed they were aware of a runner who required medical attention during the race and was transported to hospital.
The good news is that the runner is now recovering in hospital. The spokesperson thanked the first responders for their quick action and medical support. Really salute those runners who stopped to help despite being in the middle of their own race leh!
This shows the importance of having medical support and AEDs readily available at major sporting events. Also good reminder for all runners to know their limits and not push too hard.
