PlayStation 4 Support Finally Coming to an End After Historic Run
The PlayStation 4 had a legendary run, but all good things must come to an end—and it looks like the beloved console will no longer be supported going forward.
While plenty of gamers have fond memories of the PlayStation 4, it did become somewhat of a double-edged sword when the PlayStation 5 arrived on the scene.
We all shelled out big money for that shiny new PlayStation 5, only to get the occasional exclusive title here and there, plus a bunch of upgraded PlayStation 4 games. Many releases were made for both consoles, which meant the PlayStation 5 version couldn’t stretch its legs as much as it probably should have.

The Writing’s on the Wall
For now, the PlayStation 4 is still a solid console to own if you haven’t made the jump yet—but with the PlayStation 6 rapidly approaching, it was only a matter of time before the axe fell.
According to a report by Insider Gaming, several PlayStation 4 services will be discontinued over the coming months as Sony gradually phases the console into the sunset.
The following services will reportedly lose support: Activity Feed Web API, Title Small Storage (TSS), Title User Storage (TUS), Users and Profiles, Word Filters, and Shared Media Web API.
Here’s the silver lining though—this allegedly only applies to games released after Spring 2026, so your existing library won’t be affected.
Upgrade Now or Wait?
This means if you’ve been holding off on upgrading, you’ll now have more reason to pull the trigger. That said, it’d be perfectly understandable if you decided to just hold out for the PlayStation 6 instead—it’s probably only a couple of years away at this point.
Speaking of which, the PlayStation 6 is shaping up to be an absolute beast of a console, which could be fantastic or worrying depending on how you look at it.
Enhanced hardware sounds incredible on paper—until the price tag enters the chat. Rumours suggest the PlayStation 6 will be similarly priced to the PlayStation 5 Pro, though we’ll believe that when we see it.
Perhaps the most intriguing rumour about the next generation? Sony might be taking a page from Nintendo’s playbook and producing a handheld console. And we’re not talking about a PlayStation Portal successor either—this would be an actual handheld that can also dock to a TV, much like the Nintendo Switch or the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
