He insulted us online’: Man files police report against brother-in-law over FB post about funeral donations

Wah this family drama really explode sia. A 53 year old woman pass away months ago, then now her husband and brother start fighting over funeral donations until must file police report.

The husband, Joseph Lau, say his brother in law Andy Cho post on Facebook accuse him of pocketing the donation money. Joseph tell Shin Min his sister Angeline pass away from lung cancer on March 8, and her will say her estate, over 100k, all go to her 15 year old son. Joseph is the executor, so he must protect the assets until the boy turn 21.

Joseph think Cho unhappy with the will. He say Cho keep coming to him talk about money, then suddenly go online accuse them of keeping the funeral donations.

Cho post on Nov 6 claim their father in law promised him the remaining donations after deducting expenses but later change his mind. This whole thing make their 80 year old father very stressed, until he himself go lodge police report.

Joseph say the family never keep any extra money, in fact the funeral cost more than what was collected. He even show receipts to prove got no profit at all.

Cho tell Shin Min he believe there should be a surplus because last time he arrange his mother in law funeral also like that. He say eight months already, he still never see the donation record book, so he dunno the actual amount. He admit his Facebook wording too strong but say he will not take down the post.

Then the matter also got pull in a big claim about gold jewellery. Cho say his late wife had passed 53 pieces of gold to her family, worth maybe 100k. Joseph deny everything, say got no such gold.

Another incident at the wake also turn emotional. A teacher passed an envelope with 386 dollars condolence money for the boy. Joseph ask Cho to pass it over but Cho insist keep it sealed for memory. They argue until Cho’s own son cry and hit his father on the chest, begging him to apologise, then run to the coffin sobbing.

Cho say he just wanted to keep the envelope as a memento and even offer to draw the same amount from ATM so can leave the envelope unopened, but the rest of the family refuse.
